Dr. Claire Coiraton

Claire joined Control Union (UK) Limited team as a Fisheries officer. She is a French Mexico based Marine Biologist who obtained a PhD in Marine Sciences from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (Instituto de Ciencias del Mar y Limnologia, Mazatlan, Sinaloa) in 2020, a MSC in Marine Sciences from La Rochelle Universite (France) in 2013, and a BSc in Marine Biology and Ecology from La Rochelle Universite and Universidad de Costa Rica in 2010.
She is fluent in French (Native), Spanish and English.

Prior to joining CU UK and the CAB side of certifications, Claire worked for two years as project manager on a Calfornia yellowtail, snappers and groupers handline / gillnet artisanal Fishery Improvement Project in the West Central Gulf of California (Mulege, Mexico) with an US non-profit (Ecologists Without Borders). She gained experince on the MSC standard and certification while working on the fishery pre-assessment and FIP work plan development and implementation with the local fisher community and other stakeholders.

Claire was also chair of the Ecowb FIP Steering committee and Mulege FIP since 2020 and an active member of the American Fisheries Society since 2014; she was, among others, planning committee, professional development committee chair and symposium organizer of the 2023 Latin America and Caribbean Fishery congress held in Cancun, Mexico.
