    About the scheme

Green Gold Label (GGL) is an international certification programme for sustainable biomass.

GGL was established in 2002 and is owned by the Green Gold Label Foundation. GGL is amongst the earliest biomass certification schemes. It has acquired a unique track record in the certification and tracking and tracing of sustainable biomass.

GGL certification covers the complete supply chain from production, processing, transport to final use for bioenergy and biobased applications. The scope includes woody, agri-residue and waste wood biomass, as well as bioliquids.

Green Gold Label primarily focuses on two market segments:

    – Biomass for the production of biobased chemicals and other products
    – Biomass for electricity and heat production.

    Specific standards

Green Gold Label (GGL) relies on its unique track record, experience and reputation to be the number one practical and credible certification scheme for sustainable biomass worldwide in the energy and biobased sectors. The GGL standard covers a wide range of different areas and scopes. Specific standards are applicable depending on the exact nature your business, such as:

    • Chain of custody

    • Forest management sources

    • Agricultural sources

    • Generators/utilities (the energy producers)

    Energy and carbon data

The GGL standards also cover energy and carbon data that must be provided throughout the supply chain. Transaction certificates are issued for transactions between GGL certified companies in the supply chain.

    Accreditiation

Control Union Certifications is accredited by the Dutch Accreditation Council (registration RvA-C412 Products) for the GGL programme and has certified companies across the globe against the scheme’s requirements. Control Union UK is authorised to undertake GGL audits.
