Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC)

The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) was founded in 2010 by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Dutch Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH) to provide a world leading certification programme for the aquaculture industry. The ASC was founded as a direct offshoot from the success of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and very close ties have been maintained between the two.

The ASC programme promotes industry best practice to minimise the environmental and social footprint of commercial aquaculture. Through their consumer label they promote certified responsibly farmed products in the marketplace.

Customers can be assured that any product carrying the ASC logo or trademark can be traced throughout the supply chain to an ASC certified source and that it has been separated from non-certified products all along the supply chain. Because of this, Chain of Custody certification is a requirement at each step in the supply chain.

Control Union (UK) can offer individual, multi-site and group Chain of Custody audits as well as ASC farm audits. To discuss your ASC auditing requirements please contact us.
