Maruto Suisan enters the assessment for MSC certification of the oyster fishery in the Setouchi Inland Sea of Japan.

Maruto Suisan based in Aioi, Hyogo Prefecture (Japan), has entered a full assessment to obtain the MSC fishery certification for the Okayama oyster fishery in the Setouchi Inland Sea.

The oyster fishery is carried out by members of the Fisheries Cooperative of Okucho, Setouchi-shi, in Okayama Prefecture, which is one of Maruto Suisan’s partners. The Okucho members produce around 1,500 tons Pacific oysters per year, using floating rafts for grow out. This is the first rope-grown oyster fishery to enter into a full assessment.
